If you’ve been in our stores this month, you’ve noticed there’s been even more pink showing up than usual. October is Breast Cancer Awareness month, and Cupcake DownSouth has a reason close to home to participate.
Owner Kristin Cobb’s mother is a breast cancer survivor and has actually been cancer free for 20 years now! Kristin says her mom as well as many of her friends and co-workers who have been affected are her inspiration behind donating funds and resources to local races that raise funds for breast cancer research.
Cupcake DownSouth has been involved in raising awareness and funds for breast cancer research since 2010. Over the past 5 years, Cupcake DownSouth has raised almost $30,000 for the cause. They do this primarily through selling specialty cupcakes and donating part of the profits from them. The designs of these cupcakes have changed over the years, but they’re always designed to look like tatas, says Kristin.
Not only does the Cupcake DownSouth staff donate funds, but they also actively participate in local races to help raise additional awareness. “We always have a team and have a big time. We even came up with these costumes where we made bras that looked like our swirled icing,” says Kristin.
Cupcake DownSouth is participating in today’s Race for the Cure on Daniel Island and will resume participation in the Columbia area when the race is rescheduled. Thanks to all who participated in buying cupcakes and shoe prints in the stores. You guys are awesome!
